- 8 cups water
- 2 cups steel-cut oats
- 2/3 cup dried cranberries or raisins
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp table salt
- 1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds
Combine all ingredients (except almonds) in a 5-6 quart crock pot. Set to low and cook for 4-6 hours or to desired creaminess. Stir well to combine. Top each serving with 1 TB almonds.
Be sure to use steel-cut oats for this recipe as regular oatmeal will not hold up to this length of cooking.I'm a fan of the slight texture/toothsome-ness of the oatmeal after 4-6 hours of cooking.If you like your oatmeal on the creamier side feel free to cook up to 8 hours.
