I’m Julie Hartigan, a Professional Chef, Recipe Developer, & On Air Talent about cooking, health and entertaining who has developed and tested 1000’s of recipes – I also happen to be the girl who loves to turn the everyday into a party!
The recipes I develop are always with the home cook in mind. I believe in making things as simple as possible without compromising taste. So I offer shortcuts like my One Pot Meals, how-to videos and Healthy Hacks. And if you love to entertain but are a little shy about cooking for a crowd try my “party” for easy yet impressive dishes that won’t make you miss your own party!
As a little girl, I jumped at the chance to try new dishes and got impromptu cooking lessons from all the neighborhood grandmas. In fact, the first recipe I ever developed was for my own grandma’s infamous Rhubarb Crunch…to make it taste better to my 8 year old self!
Believe it or not, beneath the façade of the party-loving culinary creator before you, beats the heart of a total nerd-girl. Despite my early and obvious love of cooking, my first career was as an engineer and tech consultant For years, I secretly dreamed of opening my own gourmet shop, bed and breakfast, restaurant … something to fulfill my love of all things food and fun.
In those days, I squeezed as much cooking and entertaining into weekends as I could. I traveled a ton (still do!) and never missed out on trying the local specialty or hole in the wall joint (still don’t!). Finally, in 2007, I decided to ditch the dual-life and pursue a career I loved instead of one dictated by my diploma. Goodbye, Engineering … Hello, Culinary School!
I graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC and since then, I’ve been as a personal chef for families in Hoboken where I live, taught cooking classes, worked in magazine test kitchens and at Food Network before starting my own Brand Consulting business and launching Cooking w/Julie. You never could have told me that I’d be doing cooking demos for 1000’s on cruise ships or be featured in videos and on TV carving turkeys and making cocktails.
Plus, as a working mom with two teen daughters I’m glad I can inspire them to pursue a career that brings them joy too. And, oh, that engineering degree? It’s really helped me write clear, streamlined recipes that work, manage projects like a pro, and stay curious … so it’s definitely all worked out for the best.
My biggest joy? Transforming the stressed home cook into a kitchen rock star one recipe and cooking tip at a time!
