Mexican Crab & Avocado Burgers

Although this recipe calls for the crab cakes to be served burger-style, they're also delicious over a fresh salad.

      Mexican Spiced Crab Patties

  • 1 lb lump crab meat, picked over for shells
  • 2/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup minced red onion
  • ¼ cup minced cilantro
  • 2 TB mayonnaise
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Cooking spray

      Burger Fixings

  • 4 TB prepared guacamole
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 4 pieces romaine lettuce
  • 4 sandwich thins or light English muffins, toasted



Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine all crab burger ingredients in a medium bowl.   Scoop a heaping ½ cup burger mix onto a plate. Shape into a patty and spray both sides with cooking spray.  Place on parchment.  Repeat to make 3 more burgers.

Bake in oven for 10 minutes or until bottom of burgers are browned.  Flip burgers and cook for another 10 minutes to brown both sides. Serve burger on toasted sandwich thin topped with 1 TB guacamole, lettuce, and tomato.


Crab burger patties can be prepared in advance to speed dinner prep. This mixture can also be used to make smaller Mexican crab cake appetizers. Just reduce the cooking time to 12 minutes total.
